Mestre Peixe

ANDRE CERUTTI was born 25 January 1969 in Rio de Janeiro and began practiing Capoeira with Mestre Boneco in 1986. Prior to this he had trained in a number of other martial arts, but it was a demonstration by Mestre Boneco that really got his attention.

In 1992 he joined his family in Australia . Arriving without any English language skills he found it an extremely challenging move. Peixe’s primary concern was that his standard of Capoeira would diminish as there is no one to train with. He remedied this by establishing his own Grupo Capoeira Brasil academy in Sydney with the approval of Mestre Boneco. He hoped to train Australians the same way he was trained in Brazil and that he would soon have a strong group that could play together. He began teaching a very small group of absolute beginners - Contra-Mestra Meirelou among them. Currently, Grupo Capoeira Brasil has grown enormously in Sydney and Townsville (Australia), as well as in Polynesia and China under Mestre Peixe's supervision.

Mestre Peixe is 100% Capoeira in every thing he does. Using his experience and knowledge he promotes annual events with international guests - numbering between 5 and 15 renowned Capoeiristas at a time - to give support and conduct workshops during the Batizado.

Recently, Mestre Peixe and his team opened the first Capoeira College in the world, as is accredit by the Department of Education in Australia, where students can obtain certificates in sport and coaching specifically in Martial Arts – Capoeira.
